Neil J. McCartney

Neil McCartney was called to the Ontario bar in 2004. He practices in the areas of criminal and regulatory litigation, and has argued cases (from murder trials on down) at every level of Court in Ontario. Neil holds a B.A. (Hons.) from Queen’s University, M.Phil from the University of Cambridge (U.K.), and LL.B. also from Queen’s. He articled at the Ottawa Crown Attorney’s Office. He has contributed papers and presentations to the educational events of the Criminal Lawyers Association, Law Society of Upper Canada / Ontario, and local seminars, as well as articles to legal periodicals. He teaches criminal law at Lakehead University’s Bora Laskin Faculty of Law. He has been a director of the Thunder Bay Law Association, and in 2026 was presented with the Association’s Service to the Profession award. He has served on the board of directors of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, the Thunder Bay Art Gallery, and is presently on the board of Magnus Theatre.
